Elizabeth Seal is the president of Maine Hands & Voices. She was born profoundly deaf, the only one in her family, and grew up bilingual/bimodal, using both Cued Speech and ASL. Liz attended a mainstream public school and a college-prepatory high school using a Cued Speech transliterator.  She went on to receive her undergraduate degree in Linguistics from University of Southern Maine and her Master’s degree in Special Education from University of Maine. Liz and her deaf husband, Josh, are parents to four deaf children, Jayson, Sephine, Jarrod, and Jaxton. Liz and her family enjoy having conversations using both Cued Speech and American Sign Language, whether it’s at home, in the community, at Deaf community events, or their favorite place, in the car, while traveling across the country and exploring new places! Liz has several years' experience in working with deaf and hard of hearing children. She strongly believes in fostering the social-emotional development of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and enjoys helping these children along on their journey in developing their own identity. After all, “what works for your child is what makes the choice right” rings true!
